Race Course

  1. We asked a lot of runners as we were considering bringing back the race and the majority of people were interested in a well organized 10 mile trail race.  There are LOTS of half marathons, including trail half marathons, in New England in the fall, but few, if any well organized 10 Mile trail races in NH.
  2. To make a half marathon course, we would have to either
    1. go out onto the road
    2. use the connecting point that goes through the back of the industrial park
    3. do some kind of crazy out n back, squiggly, 2 way track course.

none of the above appealed to us, so we looked at other options.  When we came up with a fun, easy to follow, 5 mile loop, we asked around about a 10 mile/ 2 person relay and, as stated above, got lots of positive feedback.

Thus the Wolf Hollow NH 10 Mile Trail Race was born (reborn)!

This is a packed dirt flat trail. There are some areas where there maybe some rocks or tree roots on the path, but for the most part, it is not a hard core trail requiring very knobby shoes. HOWEVER, if we get a lot of rain or melted snow on the course prior to race day, it could be muddy. We will email on trial conditions a few days before the race to help you prepare.

This course varies in from wide, flat open, packed dirt to wide paved trails (you can run on the side if you want to stay of pavement) and some thinner, more technical trails.

The thinner, more technical trails are nothing too gnarly, but not runner stroller friendly.  (see image)

As with any sections of the race…or any trail race, keep your eyes sharp for roots or rocks but know that there are no mountains or mud pits to navigate.

General trail sneakers or road sneakers with good traction should be fine unless we had a lot of rain the few days before.

Course conditions will be reported a few days before the race to allow you to prepare properly.

YES, this is a great race if you are a beginner trail runner.

YES, this is a great race if you are an experienced trail runner looking for something a little faster than the mountain races like (JayPeakTrailRun.com)

YES, you still have to watch your step.

YES, there will be water stations AND a med team out there.

YES, this race will happen, rain, shine or snow!  (we will only cancel/postpone it if the city forces us due to safety reasons (E.G. tornadoes, etc)

YES, you will have fun!

Due to the nature of it being a trail race, we cannot technically certify it to USATF standards. However, it is accurately measured via bicycle and mile markers are accurate. Please do not come to us saying your GPS says it is short. We found that after racing, managing and measuring race courses for over 25 years almost every weekend that, depending on the quality of the GPS, those measurements can be off by up to .1-.2 meters  over 21KM (technical distance of a half marathon). They are great for training (we even use them) but not for accurately measuring a race course.

The race course was measured cutting every possible tangent to ensure no one runs a short course.  So, in all likely hood, you will record a long course, but at least you are getting your $$ worth!

Yes, you will have clear course markings and course marshals making sure you stay on course. Sub 5 Racing manages trail races on remote mountains and has never lost anyone.  We promise that you will find the course marked CLEARLY for this race.

They are technically not against the rules, but we do not encourage them.  Please keep your ears open for other runners, nature and the cheers of the aid stations as you go by.

We love dogs, but for both your fellow runners and your dog’s safety, we ask that you leave your dog at home. This rule applies to all pets including, but not limited to… cats, giraffes, salamanders, cobras, manatees and yaks.  Husbands are allowed but must be leashed if they tend to wander.

Yes. With it being a multiple loop course, you will hit an aid station roughly every 2 miles or so. Plenty for this time of year in NH. If there is something special you want, you may want to carry it with you.
